My personal take is the healthiest solution is always to have an honest and vulnerable conversation with your partner about your disappointments before resentment builds up. As long as you both are willing to work on the issues, every disappointment can be overcome and even strengthen the relationship.

However, I don’t recommend lingering in a perpetual state of disappointment – that is toxic and unproductive. Heart-to-hearts lead nowhere. Same hurts, no growth or change. The message isn’t getting through. Time to reevaluate if this relationship can truly meet both your needs and priorities. Use these quotes for strength. Have those tough talks. But don’t let them become self-fulfilling prophecies of despair.

If this article helped validate your feelings of disappointment and give you the words to openly express that emotional burden, do a friend a favor and share it. They’ll thank you for helping them voice the relationship hurts they’ve been internalizing. And if you have any other questions about pushing through or overcoming disappointment, drop them in the comments!
